The Complete AIFF Converter Resource: Tips, Tricks, and Recommendations
Your Most Essential Guide Towards Picking Best Aiff Converter
An easy yet powerful editor
Numerous effects to choose from
Detailed tutorials provided by the official channel
“I need to convert some general audio files to AIFF, do you have any recommendations?”
We do, in fact, have some recommendations for you! The AIFF file format, while generally obscure, is accepted by most general audio converters! So, we didn’t have any problem finding some that you can use to AIFF converter!
In this article
01 [What’s So Good About AIFF?](#Part 1)
02 [How to Convert M4A to AIFF Free and Easily](#Part 2)
03 [What Makes AIFF Converter the Best Free Online Tool for Mac Users?](#Part 3)
Part 1 What’s So Good About AIFF?
But okay, what’s the deal with AIFF? Is it really all that good? And, if it is, why? For the first part of this article, we’ve prepared a short overview on the AIFF file format You can skip ahead though if you’d prefer to see the tutorial on AIFF Converters or our list of recommendations.
01What’s AIFF?
AIFF, also called the Audio Interchange File Format, is an audio file format that was popularized in 1988. It was based on the Electronic Arts Interchange File Format and is probably most familiar for Mac users. It’s accepted by most media players, including Apple Music and the Apple QuickTime Player.
02Why Is It So Popular?
Why? Well, it all has to do with the loss of quality. AIFF files are notable because they are uncompressed — leading to an inarguably better sound. That makes it popular with content creators, who want to provide the best possible listening experience to their audience. The caveat to this, of course, is that its uncompressed state means that it takes up a lot more space on one’s disk drive. But, many people would be willing to give that up in exchange for the enhanced sound.
Part 2 How to Convert M4A to AIFF Free and Easily
For this next section, we’ll be teaching you how to convert M4A to AIFF with an online AIFF converter. The benefit of using an online converter like the one we’ll be showing you how to use is that it is usually FREE and very efficient. This makes it a perfect solution for those who are just looking to convert to or from AIFF occasionally and thus has no need for a more permanent solution.
01Step 1: Launch Online AIFF Converter & Upload Files
The first thing that you have to do is open up the online AIFF Converter that you want to use. For our example, we’ve chosen FreeConvert, but there are plenty of other ones out there for you to choose from
Once you’re on-site, make use of the upload options to prepare your file to be converted. In this case, we uploaded an MP3 file, but it will work for M4A to AIFF just as well (along with other file formats.)
02Step 2: Convert to ‘AIFF’
Once the file that you want to convert has finished uploading, confirm that the output file format has been set to “AIFF”.
03Step 3: Play with Advanced Settings
This is optional, but if you want, you can adjust certain audio parameters by taking advantage of the ‘Advanced Settings’ option
04Step 4: Convert M4A to AIFF
Now it’s time to finally convert In this case, that is as easy as selecting the ‘Convert to AIFF’ button.
05Step 5: Download AIFF
When the conversion has been completed, click the ‘Download AIFF’ to finish up and save the converted AIFF file to your computer.
Part 3 What Makes AIFF Converter the Best Free Online Tool for Mac Users?
For this next part, we’ll be demonstrating an AIFF Converter that can be downloaded and used by Mac users. And then we’ll be following it up with a long list of all the best AIFF Converters available online and for both Windows and Mac users
01How to Use Free Audio AIFF Converter on Win/Mac?
As promised, this first part is a demonstration on how you can convert M4A to AIFF with a converter that will work for both Windows and Mac. This free audio converter is called ‘MediaHuman Audio Converter.’ It’s a really simple converter and is a great option for those who see themselves requiring an audio converter often but still don’t feel it necessary to cough up extra money for premium software when they can get a free one
**Step 1: Add File(s) for Conversion
First things first, upload the file that you want to convert With MediaHuman, you can do this in one of three ways:
● Drop media onto the specified area
● Click the “+” file option in order to manually add file
● Click the “+ folder” option in order to manually add files
**Step 2: Select Format
Once your file has been uploaded, select the “Format” button in the middle of the toolbar This will cause a pop-up to appear where you can choose your desired output format Of course, in our case, we chose “AIFF”
**Step 3: Start Conversion
Next, click ‘Start Conversion’ This will initiate the conversion. After which, you’ll be able to save your converted AIFF file and store it for use.
0210 Best AIFF Converter for Lossless Conversion
Now for our list of the best AIFF Converters available right now We’ve made sure to pick a good variety of them that you can choose from. Some of which are online tools, like we introduced in Part 1, while the others will be downloaded software that you can have at the ready at all times, like what we introduced in Part 2, Section 1
Keywords: aiff converter, m4a to aiff, convert m4a to aiff
**1. Zamzar
For the first AIFF Converter on this list, we have ZAMZAR ZAMZAR is an online file conversion tool that is capable of converting in a variety of file formats. Of course, the one that we’ll be looking at today is Zamzar’s AIFF Converter — which is almost 100% FREE to use (there’s a max upload file size that can only be unlocked if you pay the premium fee).
Highlights | Highlights |
---|---|
● FREEmium Online AIFF Converter● Wide variety of input and output file formats to choose from● No loss of quality and efficient conversion speed | ● Not 100% FREE, must pay to unlock certain functions● There is a max upload size for the FREE version (50MB)● Internet is required in order for use |
**2. ConvertOnMac
Our next recommended tool is Convert on Mac This is another online tool that can be used to convert a variety of files (i.e., audio, video, image, document, etc). The one that we’ll be focusing on though is Convert on Mac’s AIFF Converter
Highlights | Highlights |
---|---|
● Supports a variety of file input and output formats● Special AIFF Converter available for easy conversion● File upload can be done both manually or through a URL | ● Available online only● Most compatible for Mac users (as is evident from the name)● Not the best for bulk conversions |
**3. Online Converter
The next one up is Online Converter This one is more like ZAMZAR than Convert on Mac. If only because it also comes with a max file size that is locked. It’s more limited though — in that it doesn’t support as many input and output formats. And, as you can no doubt guess from the interface, quite old-school as well.
Highlights | Highlights |
---|---|
● Specialized AIFF Converter● Functions as a converter for other file types as well● Large max file size | ● Available online only● Max upload file size is 200MB● Slower, less efficient conversion speed |
**4. Wondershare Filmora Video Editor
For this next AIFF Converter, we make a complete departure from your general converters by introducing a completely different beast altogether Specifically, in the form of a Video Editor called Filmora. Filmora is an incredibly advanced video editing tool. And, because of this, it’s capable of most things related to video and audio editing. Including, in this case, AIFF conversion
Highlights | Highlights |
---|---|
● Advanced video and audio functions for adjusting audio output parameters● Supports dozens of audio and video file formats● Produces high-quality end product | ● FREEmium product, certain functions are locked in the FREE version● Download and installation is required● Not the most beginner-friendly |
**5. EaseUS Video Converter
With ‘EaseUS Video Converter’ we continue on our trend of AIFF conversion software This one, despite its name suggesting otherwise, functions as a solid Audio Converter So far, it’s closest to Filmora Pro when compared to all the others on this list. It’s a one-trick kind of pony though. Seeing as, unlike with Filmora, you can really only use this to convert files.
Highlights | Highlights |
---|---|
● High-quality video and audio conversion● Supports dozens of input and output formats● FREE trial available | ● Limited FREE Trial● Supports Windows OS only● Download and installation is required for use |
**6. Wondershare UniConverter
This next software, the ‘Wondershare UniConverter’ is a bit of a mix between Filmora and EaseUS Video Converter. As is evident from the UI (shown-off in the screenshot provided), it has the makings of a straightforward converter but with extra tools (i.e., video editor, video compressor, merger, screen recorder, etc.) that you can take advantage of while working on your conversions.
Highlights | Highlights |
---|---|
● Extra features for editing input and output files● Supports up to 1000 formats● High-speed Conversion rates | ● FREEmium program● Certain functions are locked in the FREE version of the program● Download and installation is required for use |
**7. VSDC Free Audio Converter
Next up, we have VSDC VSDC is a FREE Audio Converter. It’s pretty old-school (as is perhaps evident from the UI example) but it supports a variety of audio formats, including AIFF, which earned it a spot on this list of ours
Highlights | Highlights |
---|---|
● Supports all the key formats for both input and output● Built-in editor for trimming audio● High-conversion quality | ● Open-source, and thus not update as often● The conversion speed is slow● Old-school interface |
**8. Switch Audio File Converter
Switch Audio File Converter is a Mac AIFF Converter. You can find it on the Mac APP Store, or purchase it directly on the NCH Software website. For the FREE app version, you have access to certain functions, with the rest being locked under in-app purchases.
Highlights | Highlights |
---|---|

Once the file that you want to convert has finished uploading, confirm that the output file format has been set to “AIFF”.

---|---|
● Supports over 40+ audio file formats● Batch conversion functionalities available● Convert from video to audio easily | ● Convert from video to audio easily● Faulty AIFF to OGG conversion● Comes with lots of bugs |
**9. iTunes - Apple
This is a hidden feature that not many people know about, but iTunes actually works as a pretty serviceable AIFF Converter. It’s not the most efficient, but with iTunes’ AIFF Encoder, conversion to AIFF is possible (converting from AIFF to MP3, and WAV is also possible because iTunes provides Encoders for those as well).
Highlights | Highlights |
---|---|
● FREE software, pre-installed on Mac computers● Quality settings to ensure good sound quality● AIFF-specific converter | ● No bulk-conversions available● Inefficient AIFF conversion● It will need to be downloaded and installed manually for Windows |
**10. Convertio
Last, but not least, is Convertio We circle back with this fourth and last online converter It’s actually quite advanced. Although, just like many of the other FREEmium online converters we’ve listed, it’s not 100% FREE and comes with a lot of limitations.
Highlights | Highlights |
---|---|
● Supports all the general audio files● Various ways to upload● High-quality conversions | ● FREEmium online converter● 100MB upload limit for the FREE version● Slow conversion |
Key Takeaways from This Episode
● The AIFF file format is notable because it results in higher-quality sound. This is because AIFF, unlike the more general, MP3 file format, is not a compressed format.
● There are various ways that you can convert from and to the AIFF file format. The first method that we introduced was an online tool that would be available for use no matter what computer or device you’re using The second was chosen specifically because it was FREE and available for both Windows and Mac
● If you’re interested in looking through other options, the ten other converters we introduced should provide a healthy lot for you to choose from — with various levels of usefulness depending on what you need an AIFF Converter.

OBS Studio is a basic video editor that lets us blend photos, movies, and music easily.
OBS Studio can create movies in the following formats: Flv, Mkv, mp4, mov, ts, and m3u8. Although the formats are not very open, they are compatible with internet video publishing sites. 3. PiTiVi
Like many others, this one lets you perform basic video editing activities such as trimming, cutting, snapping, splitting, and mixing. The program also supports several additional languages for those who aren’t fluent in English. You should probably read the manual before using it since it contains a lot of valuable information on using this application.

4. Kdenlive
Kdenlive is, without a doubt, one of the best video editing applications for Ubuntu available right now! What sets it apart from other video editors is that it is completely free and includes several useful features. The MLT Framework, which is based on many other open-source projects, handles most of the video editing in Kdenlive, built on Qt and the KDE Frameworks libraries.
Adjustable layout compatibility, a clip list, a multitrack chronology, automatic backup, keyframe special effects, and transitioning are all included in this video editing program. Do you have a special file format or camcorder? Not an issue — Kdenlive works with practically anything.
It’s also worth noting that Kdenlive runs on Mac OSX and FreeBSD. Proxy editing is another useful function. This handy function can produce low-quality duplicates of your source clips for quick editing and render them in full resolution.

Unlike Kdenlive, beginner video editors would obtain a comprehensive understanding of Shotcut because of its user-friendly interface. Keyframes for digital filters and 3-point editing are supported. Shotcut is useful if you need to remove the audio from a video clip rapidly. Additionally, it allows you to edit audio and 4K films. Furthermore, it allows for external monitoring.
JACK transport sync, audio blending throughout all channels, stereo, mono, and 5.1 surround sound capabilities are supported on the audio front. Shotcut is considered ideal for beginners, and if you are one, we would highly suggest getting this one for your Ubuntu.
6. Lightworks
Because the functions go beyond the world of inexperienced editors, this video editor for Ubuntu computers is suited for specialists in video editing. In reality, when it comes to editing capabilities, Hitfilm Express is extremely similar to Adobe Premiere Pro.
The major disadvantage of this program is that it consumes a lot of system resources, which means it won’t run on many lightweight laptops. You’ll have to pay extra for things like 360-degree text, extra color grading facilities, and other aesthetic enhancements, among other things. Hitfilm Express is a video editor that is so strong and simple to use that it’s difficult to believe it’s free. It’s a great option for any video creator on a shoestring budget.

9. Cinelerra
Cinelerra is a video editor for GNU/Ubuntu, first released in 1998. It was the first non-linear video editor for GNU/Ubuntu that was functional with 64-bit platforms. Cinelerra was a huge hit in its early years since it was a comprehensive and free video editor that was practically unique in its field. However, as time went on, progress slowed, and many users abandoned the project.
Currently, work is ongoing, and new Ubuntu versions are being released in stages. Cinelerra includes a split editing panel that, like Gimp, allows for non-linear video editing. Like all other video editors, Cinelerra provides a variety of video effects and transitions for producing movies and slideshows. We can get Cinelerra from Sourceforge; once we install it, we should run the program using the./ command.
10. Blender
Like Lightworks and KDenlive, this video editor is geared towards advanced users, but the greatest part is that it is free. It focuses on 3D animation rather than traditional video editing. It’s widely used in 3D modeling, visual effects, animation, simulation, pipeline, and game development.
Blender has filters, transitions, keyframes , adjustment layers, speed control, live preview, histogram displays, luma waveform, and chroma vectorscope for video production. Aside from that, it also allows you to mix, sync, and scrub audio files.
Because all of these functions might be a steep learning curve, it is a little challenging for inexperienced video producers. It is, without a doubt, the finest example of a free and open-source community project. Blender is a free program found in practically any software app store.
Conclusion
Well, there you have it – your best Ubuntu Video Editor tools list. Using Ubuntu does not preclude you from installing high-quality apps. Except for the video editors described above, there are many other Ubuntu applications available.
A few are geared for pros (such as Lightworks, HitFilm Express, and Blender), while others are designed for beginners (similar to Shotcut and OpenShot). Additionally, because most video editors are currently accessible on the google play store, you would be able to download and install them on your Ubuntu laptop.
Note: Filmora’s online version is upcoming this October! Stay tuned!

Stay tuned!
Top 10 Best Free Video Editors for Ubuntu
Picking the right video editor might be difficult for some people, but that’s where FOSS Ubuntu comes in. We’ve gathered a list of the finest video editors for Ubuntu for your benefit. We have tried and tested these apps. And based on our experience, we recomend:
1 - OpenShot | 2 - OBS Studio | 3 - PiTiVi | 4 - Kdenlive |
---|---|---|---|
5 - Shotcut | 6 - Lightworks | 7 - HitFilm Express | 8 - VLC |
9 - Cinelerra | 10 - Blender |
1. OpenShot
We are confident that you will not find a more user-friendly video editor than this one. OpenShot is most likely the best choice when you’re new to video production. It is simple to use, but it also has several interesting features.
This editor comes with a plethora of titles and transitions and compatibility for the majority of video and picture formats. You also receive an excellent export option that allows you to save files in various formats. As already mentioned, the application is designed to meet the needs of beginning learners; yet, advanced users will not be dissatisfied because it supports high-quality video formats such as 4K.
OpenShot has several useful audio editing capabilities, including seeing waveforms on the timeline and even displaying the waveform as part of the film. It also allows you to separate the sound from the video clip and tune each sound channel separately.
2. OBS Studio
OBS Studio is a free, open-source tool that can be downloaded and installed on Ubuntu and other operating systems such as Windows and Mac. Because it includes a fantastic screen capturer , OBS Studio is becoming famous for making videos of Ubuntu or other computer programs. OBS Studio is a basic video editor that lets us blend photos, movies, and music easily.
OBS Studio can create movies in the following formats: Flv, Mkv, mp4, mov, ts, and m3u8. Although the formats are not very open, they are compatible with internet video publishing sites. This editor allows us to modify video rather than merely broadcast it, albeit the editing functionality is not as robust as Kdenlive or Openshot.
OBS Studio also links with video streaming sites to create live videos, unlike other video editing software. This has made it a highly popular software among YouTubers and one that we can download on any Ubuntu version.
3. PiTiVi
Like many others, this one lets you perform basic video editing activities such as trimming, cutting, snapping, splitting, and mixing. The program also supports several additional languages for those who aren’t fluent in English. You should probably read the manual before using it since it contains a lot of valuable information on using this application.
In a word, the application provides a touch-capable, hardware-accelerated user experience. Limitless video/audio track layers, full undo/redo history, trimming, cutting, sound editing of several concurrent audio layers upon layer, volume keyframe curves, keyframe audio enhancements, and more are all supported.
Pitivi creates thumbnails and waveforms in the background to provide you with the best performance without interfering with your workflow. Pitivi may be found in most Ubuntu software repositories. If you want, you may also download pre-assembled kits.

5. Shotcut
Another free, open-source, and cross-platform video editor is Shotcut. Unlike Kdenlive, beginner video editors would obtain a comprehensive understanding of Shotcut because of its user-friendly interface. It has indigenous timeline editing, video transitions and filters, and a multitrack timeline, among other things.
The award-winning non-linear editing (NLE) program can handle 4K, Blu-Ray, and even SD and HD footage. You’ll also discover Low-Res Proxy workflows for 4K and drag-and-drop support alongside those capabilities.

The creators have also included professional-level video editing tools and audio filters and enhancements.
7. HitFilm Express
Check out HitFilm Express from FXhome when you seek the greatest video editing software but don’t want to spend a lot of money. This free video editor offers most of the same capabilities as top-tier production suites, featuring 4K video capability, 360-degree editing, and hundreds of special effects.
8. VLC
VLC Media Player has become one of the most widely used media players . It’s not only simple to use, but it also supports a variety of file types without requiring any further purchases or downloads.
It may be used to optimize audio and video on your device of choice. It can play DivC and MPEG streams. You may also watch videos as they’re downloading. It has a basic and easy user interface.
It can be used to start or join a video broadcast. VLC may be controlled via shortcut keys. Some options can be tweaked to suit your tastes. You don’t need to download any codecs to read music or video files. It includes an equalizer built-in that allows users to increase sound quality without altering it.

For macOS 10.12 or later

Note: If your video has a Filmora watermark, you should open the project to remove the watermark. Importing the video to Filmora again won’t remove the watermark.
Step 2: Log in WSID Account
Since you have signed up for the WSID and redeemed the free access to Filmora, it’s time to sign in to your account on Filmora. Now click on the Log into Wondershare ID from the Help menu. If you are running Filmora V10.5.5 and later versions, you can click the Login button on the upper right corner directly. Next, enter your email under the Email tab and then press the Next option. After that, enter your password under the Password tab and click on the Login option.
Step 3: Export Video
After activating your trial version, you can enjoy the features of the premium version of Filmora. If you don’t want to edit anymore in this project, click the Export button. You can now export the video.
Note: If you have moved or deleted some files for this video project, you may need to locate the missing files again. Click the Locate Selected button to import the missing files.
To improve your video editing and create a more stunning video, you can use the package Filmora & Filmstock video templates”, click the image below to see how to make your storytelling more engaging.
2. Remove Watermark from Video with Apowersoft
Apowersoft comes with different features to make your videos look awesome. It’s a free online tool that serves multiple purposes. Contrarily, you can also download the app on your PC to work without the internet. So, for example, you can record screens, convert videos, and do a lot of valuable stuff. Apowersoft also allows you to remove watermarks from video.
So, if you want to remove the watermark online with Apowersoft, go to the website and click on the blue area. Upload the video and select the watermarked area. The removal process will begin shortly.
However, make sure that your video file has one of the following supported formats, including MP4, FLV, MKV, MOV, WEBM, WMV, 3GP, ASF, AVI, MPG, MPEG, and TS. And in case you find any complications uploading the video online, click on the “Download App” button to install Apowersoft in your system. Doing so will help you work smoothly.
